Spotlight On: Viktorija Geèytë goes for Go Trio at MSH

Viktorija Geèytë is guest vocalist with Gene Perla's Go Trio, 7:30 p.m. May 16, in the "Jazz Upstairs" cabaret series, Miller Symphony Hall, 23 N. Sixth St., Allentown.

Perla, bass, is joined by Sean Gough, piano, and Colby Inzer, drums. Sitting in is Joe Magnarelli, trumpet, flugelhorn.

Geèytë, born in Vilnius, capital of Lithuania, began her singing career at age five with the prodding of her grandmother whose friend gave singing lessons to local children. The lessons grew to public appearances in the surrounding areas. Soon, Geèytë had steady work, even at five-years-old.

Emmaus High School's 'Disney's Beauty and the Beast' receives a record 19

Emmaus High School's "Disney's Beauty and the Beast" has received a record 19 Freddy nominations.

The next highest number of 2014 Freddy nominations is for Parkland High School's "The Wizard of Oz," which received 14, and Freedom High School's "Crazy For You," which also received 14.

The 2014 Freddy Awards Ceremony at the State Theatre for the Arts, Easton, will be broadcast at 7 p.m. May 22 on 69 WFMZ-TV and wfmz.com.

Recuperation yields many new observations

In June 2012, I finally yielded to rotator cuff surgery after a dozen years spent delaying the inevitable following a series of shoulder injuries.

The recovery and rehab has been a drawn-out process. The surgeon's treatment is supposed to conclude next month.

During the early part of my recovery I spent many hours in my recliner, observing the actions taking place in my home's backyard.

8th Bach vocal winner named

Janna Critz, mezzo-soprano, of Baltimore, was awarded first prize in the Eighth Biennial Bach Vocal Competition for Young American Singers, co-sponsored by the American Bach Society and the Bach Choir of Bethlehem during finals held May 4, Peter Hall, Moravian College, Bethlehem.

The prize includes a career development grant of $3,000 and an opportunity to perform as a soloist with The Bach Choir of Bethlehem during the 2014 - '15 concert season.
