Girls top Mounties

Thursday, February 21, 2013 by GEORGE GEIGER Special to the Press in Sports

Coach Jeff Jacksits said earlier this year, "when our shots drop we can beat anybody."

And that's exactly what happened Tuesday night when his Konkrete Kids routed Stroudsburg 52-25 in a District 11 playoff opener.

His Kids hit on 11 field goals in the first period and three more in the second period as Northampton took a 34-11 halftime lead and coasted into District 11's next round, Friday night.

Districts next for NHS wrestlers

Thursday, February 21, 2013 by PETER CAR in Sports

Northampton hopes it can keep cranking out district champions on these annual February Saturday nights, and the Kids will get that opportunity this weekend when the District 11 3A wrestling tournament kicks off at Liberty's Memorial Gymnasium.

Northampton advanced five wrestlers to regionals a year ago and head coach Seth Lisa is looking toward that same number this weekend as the postseason gets under way.

The Redeemer As the ice hockey playoffs loom, Kids Adam Orsulak knows he can be better

Thursday, February 14, 2013 by JEFF MOELLER Special to the Press in Sports

Adam Orsulak wasn't happy with the start or middle of his season, but he always has the conclusion. The latter, too, can have the biggest consequences.

Through his team's first 14 games in the Lehigh Valley Scholastic Hockey League, the senior Northampton goaltender had a 7-5-1 mark with a 4.23 goals against average. Over this past two seasons, Orsulak had been stellar in the nets, playing a major role in the Kids' drive in the playoffs the past three seasons.

Fehr looks to be better than close

Thursday, February 14, 2013 by PETER CAR in Sports

Bobby Fehr knows he's close. He was close in a 2-1 loss to Easton's Evan DiSora. He was close in a 3-2 overtime loss to Bethlehem Catholic's Connor Hedash.

And he was close in a 9-8 defeat to Whitehall's Matt Bonshak.

All three of the aforementioned opponents are considered to be the top dogs in a highly competitive 160-pound bracket heading into the postseason.

Only Hedash will be out of the equation, as Becahi competes in AA.

Nonetheless, Fehr knows he's right there with the elite.

Girls in a wait mode

Thursday, February 14, 2013 by GEORGE GEIGER Special to the Press in Sports

Northampton's "second chance season" begins next week when the District 11 Class 4A girls' basketball playoffs begin.

The Konkrete Kids - in the districts for their eighth-straight year - must sit back and wait until league championships are decided in the Lehigh Valley Conference, Mountain Valley Conference, Colonial League and Schuylkill League.

League champions are awarded the top seeds and eight of the 10 district eligible teams are in league playoffs - only Liberty and Northampton are not.

LV Sportsman's Show to make its debut

Thursday, February 14, 2013 by NICK HROMIAK Special to the Press in Sports

With the Harrisburg outdoor sports show cancelled for this year, local sportsmen who don't relish driving to Oaks for the upcoming Philly Outdoor Sports Show can take in a more condensed version when the Lehigh Valley Sportsman's Show makes its debut on March 2.

The two-day show (Mar. 2-3) will open at Allentown's Agri-Plex Expo Center (Ag Hall) where it was last held back in 2001 when Dick Laros, former Allentown taxidermist, ran it for many years. Prior to that, the show was originally held at Castle Gardens in Dorney Park.

Knock off Pleasant Vy./ Quakertown squad

Daniel Farkas scored the first two goals, and Derrick Wruble netted a hat trick to propel Northampton (8-6-1) to a 7-3 win over Pleasant Valley/Quakertown last Monday night at Lehigh Valley Ice Arena.

The Konkrete Kids put a lot of pressure on net in the opening minutes. Six shots were put on net, all saved by Devon Supper. Finally Northampton got their well-deserved goal from Farkas at the 9:12 mark.

Connor Palush and Thomas Waidelich, however, pushed Pleasant Valley/Quakertown in front within the first three minutes of the second period.
