Third time the charm vs. EHS

Thursday, October 11, 2012 by JEFF MOELLER Special to the Press in Sports

When he thinks back about the District 11 team golf championships, Northampton head golf coach Brian Davies relates the events to his own high school playing days.

"It was so exciting and tense, I could feel my heart pumping," recalled Davis about his team's performance in district play. "It took me back to the days when I was playing sports in high school. It was just that intense."

Intense was certainly the word to describe the final moments of team districts as Northampton...

Boys aiming for LVC playoff berth

Thursday, October 11, 2012 by The Press in Sports

The Northampton boys soccer team was as fired up and warm as the day on one of the last nice end of summer days at Whitehall sporting complex last Friday afternoon, beating the host Zephyrs 2-0.

John Yeaw got the Kids on the board first at the 18:30 mark of the first half finishing a ball fed to him from Tyler Davis.

The play was all set up when side midfielder Nick Stewart made a run up the right wing and crossed a ball into the box. Davis did an outstanding job keeping the...

Central has its way in lopsided win

Thursday, October 4, 2012 by PETER CAR in Sports

A lot of things went wrong for Northampton in last week's 42-12 home loss to Central Catholic and head coach Jeff Brosky hopes a lot of things go right for the K-Kids this week against Emmaus.

The Kids got themselves a wake-up call in the loss to Central, which saw them get man-handled up front, had them turn the ball over inside their own red zone and allow Central running back Colin McDermott to go off with a star-studded performance by scoring all six of the Vikings touchdowns...

Girls win again

Thursday, October 4, 2012 by GEORGE GEIGER Special to the Press in Sports

The Konkrete Kids are ranked No. 1 in the District 11 field hockey ratings and Northampton solidified their standings with a 2-1 overtime victory over Liberty on Saturday.

The Konkrete Kids (12-0 overall and 10-0 in the Lehigh Valley Conference) faced some tough tests this week, however.

The clash with perennial District 11 champion Emmaus was postponed by rain on Tuesday and rescheduled for Wednesday. Then Thursday, Northampton visits Whitehall, a team the Kids beat 2-1 in...

Girls look to turn it around

Thursday, October 4, 2012 by JEFF MOELLER Special to the Press in Sports

Northampton's Leanna Carvin isn't about to concede anything. Along with a determined will, Carvin is also a modern day high school Renaissance young woman.

The senior girls' volleyball player isn't about make any preconceived notions about her team's overall 2-9 mark and 0-7 slate in the Lehigh Valley Conference (LVC).

"We still can turn this around," said Carvin. "We all work hard and know in our hearts that we can do this. None of us have given up on the year and we want to...

Kids send five to district meet

Thursday, October 4, 2012 by MIKE HAINES in Sports

In one of the most important events of the high school golf season, the last thing a player wants to have are bad holes early in the round.

But that didn't bother Northampton's Kevin Kunkle. The junior took double bogeys on two of his first seven holes. But he didn't let those two holes ruin his round at Monday's District 11 Golf Championship Qualifier.

Kunkle carded a six-over par 78 Monday at Woodstone Golf Club in Danielsville after playing the final five holes at one-under...

Boys soccer ties Allen

Thursday, October 4, 2012 by The Press in Sports

Northampton tied Allen 0-0 in a game from last week played at J.Birney Crum Stadium Tuesday night.

The game featured lots of cross balls into the box, through balls and controlled play in the midfield. Allen's strength was playing the ball wide.

Northampton's defense shut down Allen's quick play attack, led by Julian Santos, Ian Miller, Sam Gaye and John Yeaw.

Northampton midfielders Marucs Morris, Nick Stewart, AJ Schroettner, and Josh Schoenberger did a great job...

Notaro 2nd

Thursday, September 27, 2012 by MIKE HAINES in Sports

Evan Notaro owns two District 11 medals, earning one in each of his two appearances at the district championship.

The Northampton senior was hoping to add some Lehigh Valley Conference hardware to his trophy case Monday at the LVC Golf Championship.

Notaro earned a league medal Monday at Allentown Municipal Golf Course, but it wasn't the one he was hoping for. He shot a 4-over par 76 to tie for second place, earning the silver medal by a match of cards.

"I wasn't very...

Girls get first loss

Thursday, September 27, 2012 by JEFF MOELLER Special to the Press in Sports

Entering this season, the Northampton girls' tennis team attempted to keep a low profile off their overall 16-3 season 12-2 Lehigh Valley Conference (LVC) in which they graduated five seniors including number one singles player Brittany Hodge.

So far, however, it has been hard to hide.

Beginning this week, the Kids had an overall 12-1 record that included an undefeated streak through their first eight matches. Their lone loss was to LVC perennial contender Parkland, who the...

Kids get back on track against Becahi

Thursday, September 27, 2012 by PETER CAR in Sports

It was the type of game that Northampton needed to get back on track in Lehigh Valley Conference play last Friday against Bethlehem Catholic. The K-Kids (2-2, 1-2) blasted the Golden Hawks 35-6 at Notre Dame-Green Pond to spoil Becahi's homecoming night and propel themselves with a boost of confidence heading into this week's battle with Central Catholic at Al Erdosy Field.

Northampton used scores just before halftime and right after the intermission to break open a close contest into...
