Northampton field hockey team off to hot start

Last week it was a mixture of defense and offense that paid off for Northampton's field hockey team.

This week, it was another mixture of defense and offense - with more emphasis on defense as the Konkrete Kids racked up a pair of overtime victories.

Coach Kelly Backenstoe's squad registered 2-1 wins over Whitehall and Parkland as the Konkrete Kids opened Lehigh Valley Conference play with wins over key North Division foes.

D-11 to use new rating system

PIAA District 11 is pleased to announce the adoption of a new power rating system to be used beginning immediately for fall sports in 2012, and progressing through the 2012-13 athletic seasons.

The power rating system and its policies and timelines were adopted on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012 during the District 11 committee meeting.

Cole Sheptock always wanted to be better than his older brother Jimmy at everything. It's part of the common nature of brothers in the athletic field to have that sibling rivalry, especially in the case of a younger brother.

Boys just want to have fun and brothers tend to want to be better than each other.

LTAA teams win 4 titles

Lehigh Township Athletic Association softball team won four titles this year.

The 18U Parkland League team finished the spring 2012 regular season 10-4-1, which seeded them in sixth place going into the playoffs.

The team overcame some late-season, tough losses to regroup and take charge entering the playoffs by defeating Alton Park (#3 seed) in the first round, SPYA (#2 seed) in the second round and Hokey (#1 seed) in the championship game in two-straight games.

The Super 2 Challenge, as it has unofficially been called, began in fall of 1998 as a result of the break-up of the East Penn Conference.
