The Penn State softball team turned in another split effort on last Monday evening, falling to No. 21 LSU, 11-3, in five innings in game one before upsetting the Tigers 6-5 in the second game. With the win, first year head coach Amanda Lehotak earns her first victory over a ranked opponent.

The Northampton boys varsity swim team ended the 2013-2014 season on high note last Wednesday evening as they clinched their first winning season in seven years with a record of 8-5 overall and 5-5 in the Lehigh Valley conference.

Despite a loss to Easton at home on last week on senior night, this season marks the first winning record Northampton swimming has achieved since the girls team posted a winning season since the winter of 2007.

Girls wait another day

It took all of Northampton's 22 games to get a berth in the District 11 Girls Class 4A basketball tournament, which was to start Tuesday.

But, the Kids still had to wait an extra day to play their pigtail round game with East Stroudsburg South. Coach Jeff Jacksits' team was to play the Cavaliers Tuesday but the game was postponed by snow and rescheduled for Wednesday - which is after Press deadlines.

District 11 brought the hammer down on the Palisades wrestling program Sunday morning during a special hearing to discuss the sanctions and punishment against head coach Omar Porrata following the team's decision to forfeit the entire match against Bethlehem Catholic on Jan. 30, in the District 11 2A team tournament.

Northampton's wrestling team is shooting for a top-five finish at this weekend's District 11 3A wrestling tournament.

A few years ago, Derrick Wruble wasn't thinking about playing hockey. Instead, he was engrossed in playing nearly every other sport from baseball to lacrosse.

But when Wruble went to see his friend Tyler Feist play on the Northampton hockey team, he soon began to have an appreciation for the sport. Now four years later, Wruble is near the top of Northampton's leading scorers and he will likely continue the sport upon her graduation from the school.

It took 22 games, but Northampton's girls' basketball team made it to the District 11 Class 4A tournament again.

The Konkrete Kids routed Stroudsburg 48-37 Saturday and clinched a District 11 spot with an 11-11 overall record. It's the Kids eighth-straight berth in the district tournament.

Coach Jeff Jacksits' team, which won five of their last seven games, finished 6-8 in the Lehigh Valley Conference after tough losses to Parkland (40-38) and Nazareth (50-43).

Northampton's football program needs a fixer and they hope that Mark Scisly is the man for the job.

The Northampton varsity swim team hosted the Whitehall High School on Thursday, Feb. The boys team clinched a win over Whitehall with a final score of 125-42.

Although several of the girl swimmers delivered exceptional performances in their individual races, overall the girls fell short and lost to Whitehall 113-70.

The boys put up some tough competition in last Thursday's meet with strong performances from many of the team's swimmers.
