The Northampton girls basketball program continues to prepare for the 2019-20 winter season and so far they have seen success along the way.

The varsity, JV and freshman teams all took part in the Parkland Summer League, which ended a couple of weeks ago.

Despite some key losses from last year’s team, the varsity squad went 9-1 during the season while the JV team was an unbeaten, 10-0. The freshmen team went 5-5.

“All in all we had a good summer considering many of the...

At this time of year, a good many outdoors oriented folks head to the hiking trails, be in the in Pocono Mountains or the vast Appalachian Trail that runs locally through the Blue Mountains and beyond through 14 states. As such, keep in mind there are hazards along the way. Namely, rattlesnakes.

Rattlers strike fear in the hearts of many people, especially those who believe the only good snake is a dead snake. Hikers in particular, need to know that people bitten by rattlesnakes are...

Haseley seeing up and down season

Friday, July 12, 2019 by CHUCK HIXSON in Sports

It’s been a wild season for Adam Haseley.

After being selected by the Phillies with their first-round pick in the 2017 Draft, Haseley has moved quickly through the minor league system thanks in part to a whirlwind 2019 season that has seen him move from Double-A ball in Reading all the way to the majors and then back down to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Haseley was born and raised in Florida and played college ball in Virginia. As a pro, he played in the Gulf Coast League before...

“Kendall [Strohl] and Katelyn [Stuhldreher] are on my tournament team, and after we played Saturday, Kendall asked if I could fill in for Sarah because she hurt her arm,” Fraley explained. “Everybody was really welcoming. The coaches were great and the girls were too.”...

Building blocks are a familiar sports metaphor, illustrating the need for strong foundational pieces in order to achieve athletic success.

Whether it’s constantly working on staying low out of the blocks as a sprinter, taking jumper after jumper in an empty gym, or increasing one’s strength in a musty weight room, that attention to the fundamentals is what’s needed to build future success.

Those figurative building blocks now have a literal meaning for Alexandra MacLean who...

LV hoping to improve play in second half

Tuesday, July 2, 2019 by CHUCK HIXSON in Sports

If you’re going to take in an IronPigs game right now, there’s no telling what you’ll see.

You could very well see the team that went through a six-game losing skid in the middle of June only to sort of right itself and go 3-3 in their next six games. That team looked completely and totally hideous. Then, there’s the team that lost both games of a short, two-game series at home to Rochester. That team was hideous in one game and played OK, dropping a 3-2 decision in the next game....
