All season long, Northampton never suffered a blowout loss. In fact, the Konkrete Kids’ (20-4) four defeats were by a combined total of six runs.
So, a close loss didn’t loom as the likely ending of their season.
Unfortunately, it was.
The Kids abruptly ended one of the best seasons in school history with a 5-3 loss to Emmaus in the opening-round of the District 11 Class 6A playoffs.
Northampton watched an apparent steadfast 3-1 lead quickly evaporate when Emmaus...

Throughout the baseball season, Cam Eaton knew the big picture and how to appreciate it.
He has been there before as the football team’s starting quarterback only to lose his job to teammate Joe Kerbacher after the seventh game of the season.
In fact, football helped him shape his final baseball season.
“I let the incident make me work even harder,” said the senior. “I learned a lot from what happened in football. It reminded me never to let something like that happen...
With Memorial Day traditionally kicking off the pleasure boating season, and if you own a boat or watercraft, this list, prepared by the Boat Owners Association of the United States (BoatUS), tallies the most popular boat names.
The tradition dates back a quarter century, with the list derived from adding up requests for boat name designs from BoatUS Boat Graphics. Each reveals something about the personality of the vessel’s owner. And the list is entertaining to say the least....

A brace from Chavany Willis was enough to earn a nine-man Bethlehem Steel FC side an impressive come-from-behind draw against reigning USL Cup Champion Louisville City FC Sunday afternoon. Louisville finished with ten on the pitch after Napo Matsoso and Faris were show red cards in the 37th minute of the match.
Steel FC came out unafraid of the visiting two-time defending champs and determined to show well at home. The club started the game on the front foot and had two really good...
One thing after another has come up for J.D. Hammer in his baseball career and he’s conquered them all.
First, he envisioned himself being a major league shortstop, but the coaches at Navarro Community College in Texas didn’t see enough offensive skills to keep him on the team. His choices were to pitch or redshirt; he learned to pitch.
After junior college, Hammer transferred to Marshall University and wound up showing enough pitching skill that the Rockies took a chance on...
Since he took over the program eight years ago, Mick Sugra has been looking for the trifecta of pitching, hitting, and defense to create the perfect season.
So far, he is getting his wish.
The Kids headed into Wednesday’s opening -round of districts as the top seed in the Class 6A bracket and hosted Emmaus. They captured their first East Penn Conference crown since 1979 with a 3-1 victory over Liberty last week.
Beginning the year with consecutive defeats against then...
Twenty-two years separate the two teams, but the comparisons can be a bit uncanny.
Northampton recently won its first conference crown since 1997 (then Mountain Valley Conference) and, in many ways, it can seem like it was yesterday.
“Both teams are alike in many ways,” said current head coach Mick Sugra, whose team took a 20-3 mark into districts. “The teams back in ‘95 through ‘97 were loaded. We lost to Liberty in the district semifinals in ’96 (5-4) after we beat them 20-0...
The Northampton softball team dispatched Stroudsburg 9-1 in their District XI 6A quarterfinal game on Tuesday. Coupled with their regular season win against Freedom, the Kids outscored the champions of the EPC Mountain and Steel Divisions by a combined 17-2.
The Kids’ offense got rolling, as it often does, off the bat of Hannah Boggs. The Lock Haven-bound senior smoked a line drive into the left-centerfield gap for a double that drove in Jordan Geroulo to put Northampton up 1-0 after...
