Construction of new Lehigh Elementary approved

Board votes to build rather than renovate; new school will be ready for 2021-22 year

7:11 p.m. Oct. 23 — that’s when time ran out for the 63-year-old Lehigh Elementary School.

By a unanimous 9-0 vote, the Northampton Area School District Board of Education voted to build a new school on the site of Lehigh Elementary, 800 Blue Mountain Drive, Lehigh Township.

The choice was one of two options for Lehigh Elementary School. Option one was to renovate the existing building. Option two was to build a new school on the same site.

School Director Dr. Michael Baird moved to bring option two to a vote, seconded by Director Roy Maranki.

NAHS’ DECA Club is hosting its fourth annual mattress sale fundraiser. The cafeteria of the high school, 1619 Laubach Ave., will be transformed into a 20-plus-bed showroom filled with all sizes and styles.

Learning literacy concepts at George Wolf Elementary

On Oct. 6, parents were invited to a kindergarten parent workshop on literacy concepts at George Wolf Elementary School, Bath. The workshop was designed by George Wolf’s kindergarten teachers and was the first of a new series of workshops. Approximately 50 parents attended the morning event.

Parents walked into their child’s kindergarten classrooms to see teachers modeling literacy methods for parents to use to assist their children at home.

District news: High school safety night set for Oct. 17

Northampton Area School District will be holding a safety night at the high school Oct. 17. The event will run 6-8 p.m.

The event will feature presentations by several organizations, including the Northampton County District Attorney’s Office, Valley Youth House and district personnel. Two 45-minute sessions and five 20-minute sessions will be offered within the two-hour event.
