Catasauqua High School student dies in car accident

One other dead, two injured Saturday

A Catasauqua High School student was pronounced dead Saturday, Dec. 29, at the intersection of Race and Railroad streets.

Jaenis Delossantos, 18 and a senior at CHS, was a passenger in a vehicle operated by Thomas R. Bono, according to a news release issued by Chief Douglas Kish of the Catasauqua Police Department.

The vehicle, Kish reported, was traveling west on Race Street when Bono lost control of the automobile and struck a utility pole at 6:15 a.m. at the 100 block of Race Street.

Suspicious person reported

Coplay police on Dec. 12 responded at 1:30 p.m. to a call about a suspicious person.

A resident of the unit block of South Front Street told police he saw an unknown man looking into a window at the rear of his residence.

Police said the resident chased the unidentified man on foot south on Front Street into Whitehall Township, after which time he lost contact.

Police are investigating.

Officers respond to 911 hang up

A report of a 911 hang-up Dec. 18 at 6:08 p.m. had police responding to an apartment at 11 N. Front St.

Men charged with weapons offenses

A man attempting to execute "a straw purchase" of a handgun for another person waiting outside in a car resulted in two arrests.

Whitehall Township police charged both men with weapons offenses, township commissioners and Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. learned during a report given by township Police Chief Linda J. Kulp.

Kulp said the incident took place at the Army Navy Store on Grape Street during the past month. Employees of the store called police concerning two suspicious men and the purchase of a handgun.

Police called

about alarm

Borough police responded Dec. 11 to a report of a vehicle alarm sounding at 9:23 p.m. in the area of Ninth and Chestnut streets.

On arrival, police said, they determined the sound of the alarm was coming from a 1991 Ford sedan.

The owner of the vehicle arrived at the scene and turned off the alarm, police said. No further action was taken by police.

Firefighters called

Coplay Police on Dec. 23 responded to a report of a fire in the parking lot at the Lehigh Valley Ice Company, 904 Chestnut St.

WCSD campus locked down

Whitehall High School, middle school and elementary schools were locked down Tuesday morning for just over two hours.

The lockdown resulted when a dozen township police officers responded to two separate incidents – one involving a student threatening another student and the other involving a threat in connection with the Mayan doomsday prediction that Friday would be the end of the world.
