Police report record

The Pennsylvania State Police, Fogelsville, recently reported it set a single-year record for DUI arrests, proactive enforcement, incidents investigated and criminal arrests in 2012.

For the year 2012, state police reported 527 arrests for DUI, 9,620 traffic citations, 13,286 incidents investigated, 1,101 criminal arrests and 5,104 warnings issued

Trailer found with marijuana

State police on Feb. 4 at 10:45 p.m. discovered a goose hunting trailer with marijuana hidden underneath the wheel well.

Police investigating armed robbery

Two men wearing black hooded sweatshirts, masks and gloves robbed the Knights Inn, 1880 Steelstone Road, Hanover Township, Lehigh County.

The incident took place Feb. 1 at 10:50 p.m. when the two men entered the lobby and pointed handguns at two victims, police said.

One of the men jumped over the lobby registration desk counter top and began searching through cabinets and drawers. The man stole an iPhone 3 and $427 from the cash register, police said.

· A report of a lost passport brought police to the 800 block of Main Street.

· Police responded to a report of a stolen cell- phone.

· Officers were called to the 1700 block of Main Street to investigate a report of criminal mischief to a vehicle.

Coplay chief presents year-end police report

Although Coplay Borough did not see a noticeable increase in overall police activity in 2012, the number of assaults is on the rise.

According to a report presented by police Chief Vincent Genovese at the Feb. 5 council workshop, the borough experienced 2,988 incidents in 2012, compared with 2,987 in 2011.

In 2011 there were six assaults reported, compared to 20 in 2012, said Genovese.

In 2011 there were 115 reported crimes and in 2012 the total was 166.

Breathe easy

Zorro, Northampton Police Department's K-9, will not be at risk as much when entering smoke filled buildings or structures with toxic materials now that the police department has acquired pet oxygen masks. Northampton K-9 Officer John Mullner and Zorro join Anita Patterson, a volunteer with Lehigh Valley County Animal Rescue Team, which conducted a pet oxygen mask donation campaign. Slatington resident Howard Paul made the donation to Northampton police.

Harassment

State police reported on Jan. 20 at 6:01 p.m. a man used offensive language and punched another person in the face at the Carmike Cinemas, Hanover Township, Lehigh County.

Charges of harassment and disorderly conduct will be filed against the man, police said.

Retail theft

On Jan. 2 at 5:23 p.m. state police were called to Sam's Club, 901 Airport Center Drive, Hanover Township, Lehigh County, to investigate a retail theft.
