Northampton grads marry

Janelle Heminitz and Chris Hall were married Oct. 13, 2012, at The Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena, Allentown.

The ceremony was followed by a reception at the Holiday Inn Conference Center, Fogelsville.

Parents of the couple are Janet and John Heminitz of Walnutport, and Charlotte and Kenneth Hall of Northampton.

The bride and groom are 2005 graduates of Northampton Area High School.

Local couple to wed

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Berger of Bath announce the engagement of their daughter, Sarah, to Eric Coughlin, son of Kathleen Harley of Northampton and Robert Coughlin of Northampton.

Both are graduates of Northampton Area High School.

The bride-elect received a Bachelor of Science degree in health sciences from Lebanon Valley College in 2011.

She is attending Lebanon Valley College where she expects to receive a Doctorate in physical therapy in May...

Although Catholic Schools Week is winding down, Good Shepherd Catholic School, Northampton, and Saint Elizabeth Regional School, Fullerton, still have several events on tap.

At Good Shepherd on Newport Avenue, events for today, Thursday, Jan. 31, include a lunch where students, parents and grandparents enjoy a meal and a bake sale to benefit the sixth-grade trip to Medieval Times. The students will also make cards for homebound parishioners and "thank you" cards for the pastors.


Allen approves budget

The Allen Township Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the 2013 budget.

The $1,486,828 budget is supported by $707,975 in current and back real estate taxes and retains the 5-mill property tax rate, one of the lowest in the region. There will be no increase in property taxes.

A total of $753,031 has been appropriated for highway maintenance and general services. The largest projected expenditures are $155,672 for road crew wages and $49,572 for the public works director....

Egg hunt, other events on agenda

The Borough of Northampton is looking beyond the cold winter weather to spring and its annual children's Easter egg hunt.

Borough Manager Gene Zarayko informed council the event will be held at the community park off Laubach Avenue and Smith Lane 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23. The rain date is 1 p.m. Sunday, March 24. Easter Sunday is March 31.

In other business, council was informed some paperwork needs to be completed before borough lawmakers vote on the planning commission's...

Cooking sets off alarm

A report of a fire alarm brought Coplay police and borough firefighters to the Columbia House on South Second Street Saturday evening. Police said the alarm was set off when a tenant was cooking in the kitchen.

The fire department responded to the call.

Front grill of vehicle stolen

A resident of North Third Street reported Jan. 21 the grill of her Volkswagen Passat was stolen.

The theft took place sometime between Jan. 18 and 21...
