Northampton artist shares his gift of painting

Not everyone is blessed with the gift of producing a piece of artwork.

Gerald Simcoe, owner of Simcoe Gallery in Northampton, considers his talent to draw and paint to be a gift, and one he said, is an ability that comes with a "responsibility to develop" it.

Northampton Regional EMS Paramedic Maria Wescoe was recognized by the Pennsylvania Emergency Health Service Council and received the Dr. George Moerkirk Memorial Outstanding Contribution to EMS Award recently. The award was presented at the Pennsylvania Fire Emergency Services Institute annual awards dinner.

The award is given in memory of George E. Moerkirk, M.D., Past President of PEHSC.

You've probably noticed the clear-cutting of areas under power lines in your neighborhood in recent years. It is quite difficult not to notice these newly cut sections of power line rights-of-way.

Congress passed the Energy Policy Act of 2005, requiring power companies to clear-cut these areas beneath their power lines. This includes the area 10 feet outward on both sides, extending from the outer conductor of the power towers.

Fire station could get an upgrade

The Northampton Borough Fire Station on Lerchenmiller Drive could be in for an upgrade later this year.

The town's central fire station built earlier to house all the borough's fire equipment and personnel under one roof is experiencing growing pains.
