Crime Watch meeting set

Whitehall Township will hold its next Crime Watch meeting 7 p.m. Feb. 25 in the public meeting room of the municipal building.

Whitehall Mayor Edward Hozza Jr. will deliver his state of the township address, which will detail the township's growth, construction progress, projected completion schedules, future plans, goals and township direction for 2013.

The George Wolf PTA Founders Day Dance will take place 7-10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22.

The dance is an annual event held in honor of the founders involved in PTA.

If you don't like the weather, wait 10 minutes.

I first heard that saying while visiting Maine, but I think there's some truth to it here, too.

Friday was absolutely beautiful. I took in the sunshine and enjoyed a 75-minute walk through the neighborhoods of Coplay. It was so nice out I didn't wear a coat and, at one point, I even took off my cardigan sweater.

Saturday wasn't bad but it was definitely colder. By Sunday, the winds made it feel downright frigid.

The Quota Club of Northampton is holding its annual oldies dance on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Northampton Memorial Community Center, 16th Street and Laubach Avenue.

Doors open at 6 p.m., and a dinner buffet will begin at 6:30 p.m. Beverages are included. Deejay Jimmy K will play oldies from 7 to 11 p.m.

Hussett completes basic training

Air Force Reserve Airman Jermaine M. Hussett graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Schmidt retires

Chief Master Sgt. Michael Schmidt retired after 32 years in the U.S. Air Force and Alaska Air National Guard Rescue Squadron.

Schmidt, the son of Walter K. Schmidt of Northampton and the late Joan Braun Schmidt, graduated from Northampton Area High School in 1981.

He has flown HC-130 and E3 AWACS aircraft including 91 combat and combat support missions.
