The annual March cleaning of Coplay's streets can't come soon enough for borough residents.

Families say the grit, fine sand and other materials get tracked into their homes, putting their vacuum cleaners into overtime mode.

My biggest challenge since becoming chairman of the Relay for Life of Whitehall has been making it known that this is your relay. There is a misconception that the "Relay for Life of Whitehall" is just for the residents and businesses in the township of Whitehall. Not true. Our territory consists of the areas making up the Whitehall-Coplay, Catasauqua, Northampton and the Allentown school districts.

Borough ready for middle school project

Northampton Borough Council was told at a recent meeting construction of the new Stadium Drive located, off Smith Lane, should begin soon.

Since the new roadway will consume some of the borough park property on the east end, borough Manager Gene Zarayko said a borough public works crew will begin removing the fence and equipment at the park's tennis courts.

"Some of the fencing material will then be used to repair the Alliance Playground tennis court area," Zarayko said.

Firefighter positions approved by board

Nick Lalik has been retained as fire chief for the volunteer Allen Township Fire Company No.1, the township supervisors noted at their recent meeting.

The supervisors confirmed the appointments of the fire company officers whose names were recommended by the fire company.

Vandalism reported

Coplay Police were called Feb.22 to the 100 block of South Front Street for a report of vandalism.

Police said the license plate bracket had been broken off the parked 1994 Ford camper and a Duralast battery valued at $150 had been taken from the vehicle.

Police are investigating.

The annual Spring Basket Social at St. Nicholas Church, Berlinsville, will be held on Saturday, March 16, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday, March 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

U.S. Luge Team sleds lost, found

Police were called to Airport Road near Old Carriage Road in East Allen Township Feb. 15 to investigate a report of lost sleds owned by the U.S. Luge Team Association of Lake Place, N.Y.

Police said the rear door of a box truck opened and sleds owned by the U.S. Luge Team fell off the truck and onto the road.
