The public is invited to the dedication of the sign commemorating the archaeological dig of the Fort Deshler site. The event will be held 11 a.m. Nov. 9 along the Ironton Rail Trail.
Fort Deshler was owned by Adam Deshler. It was provisioned as a place of refuge during times of unrest by the Pennsylvania Assembly and Benjamin Franklin. It was the only Colonial fort utilized for refuge during the 1763 Indian uprising.
Alpha Delta Kappa
Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Society of Women Educators has celebrated its 64th anniversary.
This group is dedicated to educational excellence, altruism and world understanding. Members serve their communities in many ways, including volunteering, tutoring, offering scholarships and giving donations to community projects.
The Alpha chapter, organized in 1954 in the Allentown School District, was the first chapter of the organization established in Pennsylvania.

State Rep. Zach Mako, R-183rd, announced recently a $180,000 state grant has been awarded to Lehigh Township for improvements to Indian Trail Park.
Mako advocated for the funding through the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Greenway, Trails and Recreation Program, which funds projects for planning, acquisition, development, rehabilitation and repair of greenways, recreational trails, open spaces and parks.

Mako advocated for the funding through the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Project (RACP) program.

Hokendauqua Chapter of Trout Unlimited
The Hokendauqua Chapter of Trout Unlimited is hosting the third annual ladies fly fishing educational instruction event Oct. 13.
Check-in begins 8 a.m., and the program starts 9 a.m.
There is no cost.
Women, age 18 and older, will be given instruction on fly fishing equipment, how to cast, tie a fly pattern and more.
You may bring your own equipment or use the equipment provided.
State Rep. Marcia Hahn (R-138rd) invites senior citizens, their families and caregivers to her annual senior expo 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 5 at Bushkill Township Volunteer Fire Company, 155 Firehouse Drive, Nazareth.
“My staff and I are looking forward to again spending time with our neighbors and friends who come out every year,” Hahn said. “With nearly 70 vendors scheduled to attend, this event is a great opportunity for them to check out the many local, state and federal service providers that are available.”
The Chick-fil-A in Whitehall, 2610 MacArthur Road, is hosting its second annual trunk-or-treat event 5-7 p.m. Oct. 23.
This community event allows children to trick or treat in a unique way. Children will be able to walk around and receive treats at cars that were registered to participate.
There will be other activities as well, such as face painting, a deejay and a balloon artist.
Rain date for the event is Oct. 24.
