Bath 275th celebration starts Sat.

The borough of Bath will celebrate its 275th anniversary this coming week.

Below is a list of the events planned for the anniversary celebration.

Saturday, Aug. 11 – Anniversary Gala Dinner Dance at the Bath Social Hall, 7-11 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 12 – Anniversary Choir concert, 2 p.m., St. John's church; Ecumenical church service, 6 p.m., Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church.

Monday, Aug. 13 – Presentation of plaque to borough, 3 p.m. – Ciff Cowling Pavilion; dedication of the Monocacy Creek Park at 7 p.m.

Christman promoted to senior airman

Tyler S. Christman has been promoted to the rank of senior airman in the U.S. Air Force.

Christman is a medical laboratory specialist assigned to the 59th Medical Wing at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He has served in the military for three years.

He is the son of Ann Kolodich and the grandson of Carol Christman, both of Catasauqua, and the son of Rodney Christman of Lehigh Township.

Christman is a 2008 graduate of Catasauqua High School.

Smith family has deep roots in the Lehigh Valley

In this new series, I will be speaking to Mr. Harold Smith, a well-known, highly respected local resident who is president of the Northampton Historical Society and historian of the Zion Stone Church. He is a former employee of Miller's Department Store in Northampton, Kotsch's Market in Fullerton and member of numerous community organizations.

Mr. Smith is extremely proud of his Pennsylvania "Dutch" German heritage. The Pennsylvania Dutch were some of the early immigrants to "Penn's Woods." Many came from the Palatinate area of Germany.

Sacred Heart School to host kindergarten open house

Sacred Heart School, located in Bath, will hold its yearly registration and kindergarten open house Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The school has openings for its full-day kindergarten class. Students must be 5 years old as of Oct. 15. Sacred Heart also has openings in grades 1 to 8. The school's small class size promotes individualized instruction.

Applications are available in the school office.
