"Once an Eagle, always an Eagle."
These words, spoken by keynote presenter Dr. Charles D. Peters, are not an original statement, but rather a lasting mantra that has been used over the years at Eagle Scout celebrations.
It was only appropriate that he chose such a long-standing phrase for the 100th anniversary of the Eagle Scout Award, which began back in 1912.
A total of 213 Eagle Scouts from the class of 2012 were honored May 22 for attaining the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America at the Holiday Inn Conference Center, Fogelsville.
Hill named Honor Guard Member
Air Force Senior Airman Antonio P. Hill has been named Honor Guard Member of the Year.
Selection was based on the individual's exemplary duty performance, job knowledge, leadership qualities, teamwork, significant self-improvement, personal achievements, notable accomplishments and community service and support.
Hill is a vehicle management and analyst assigned to the 628th Air Base Wing at Charleston Air Force Base, S.C. The senior airman has served in the military for five years.
Madison Riley Eisenhart, 11, of Northampton, has been chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Pennsylvania Pageant to be held the weekend of Aug. 9 in Harrisburg.
The National American Miss pageants are held for girls ages 4-18, and have five different age divisions. Madison will be participating in the pre-teen (10-12) age division, along with outstanding young ladies from across Pennsylvania.
Her community service project will be "Donate for Dance."
Summer in Northampton this year may not be filled with free public concerts. However, residents will be able to enjoy some music in the borough.
Low attendance at the free live music events held in previous years caused the borough to abandon the idea of continuing regularly scheduled, free concerts at the gazebo in Canal Park and Lincoln Avenue near a high-rise apartment building.
Still, concerts will be a part of several special events.
