Assumption BVM breakfast Sunday

Assumption BVM Church, 22nd Street and Washington Avenue, will hold a breakfast Sunday, Jan. 26, 8:30 a.m.-noon.

There is a cost. Tickets will be available at the door.


The Northampton Area Public Library, 1615 Laubach Ave., is starting a Pokemon Club for kids ages 12 to 16.

The group will meet Feb. 5, 2:30 p.m., in the teen room and then every other Wednesday.


The Friends of the Northampton Area Public Library group will hold its next meeting Tuesday, Jan. 28, 7 p.m., at the library, 1615 Laubach Ave.

Sports sign-ups slated

Spring sports sign-ups in East Allen Township are under way.

Registration will be held at the municipal building, 5344 Nor-Bath Blvd., on Jan. 25, 9-10:30 a.m.; Feb. 6, 6-7:30 p.m.; and Feb. 8, 9-10:30 a.m., for T-ball, baseball and soccer.


The Allen Township and East Allen Township municipal buildings will be closed Monday, Feb. 17 in observance of the Presidents Day holiday.

Penny bingo Sunday

Klecknersville Rangers Volunteer Fire Company, 2718 Mountain View Drive, Bath, will hold a penny bingo party Sunday, Jan. 26.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and play begins at 1 p.m.

There will be games of choice, pennies, raffles, food and fun.

Christ Church Little Moore Preschool, 913 S. Mink Road, Bath, is now holding enrollment for the 2014-15 school year.

There are three- and four-year-old preschool programs, a.m. and p.m., available. Full-time preschool is also available for the four-year-old program.

Lehigh Township Rails to Trails is involved in projects and recreational opportunities involving both of these interests.

There is a cost for individual memberships and it is good for one year.

Being a member entitles you to attend meetings and to help work on projects.

Dean Witman

Mr. Dean Witman was born in Blandon, graduating from Fleetwood High School in 1971. His first employment was with Giorgio Foods on their mushroom farms.

"The job was interesting; I started at $2.25 an hour and did everything from packing to cooking," he recalls. "During the busy season, an 80- to 85-hour week was standard. The owners were hard working, brilliant men."

"My uncles worked at Allentown Cement, now Lehigh-Heidelberg," he said. "I heard they were hiring so I went to the plant each Monday, applying for a position."

Affordable Care Act presentation set for Jan. 18 at library

Do you have questions about the new health care laws?

The Northampton Area Public Library will host a program Saturday, Jan. 18 on the Affordable Care Act in Pennsylvania.

This event, set for 10-11 a.m., will be presented by My Lien Nguyen, who has more than 25 years' experience in health-care management in both private and public sectors, nonprofit and for-profit. She now volunteers in the community as a medical interpreter, Apprise counselor (Medicare) and benefits ambassador.

Baseball, softball sign ups taking place

Although the winter season has just arrived, Coplay Sports Inc. will be holding baseball and softball sign-ups Saturday, Jan. 18, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Sixth Street field house.

Sign-ups will again be held Saturday, Jan. 25, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., and Wednesday evenings, Feb. 5 and 12, from 6-7:30 p.m., also at the field house.

Mansfield concert choir is Jan. 17

Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, 604 Fourth St., Catasauqua, is sponsoring the Mansfield University Concert Choir on Friday Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m.

A good will offering will be accepted.

Come out and enjoy the performance prior to the choir's debut at Carnegie Hall.


Sweets with your sweetie(s) family date night is set for Saturday, Feb. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church.
