Rosa Meckes, 96, of Nazareth and formerly of Northampton, died Aug. 11, 2012, at at Gracedale County Home, Upper Nazareth Township. She was the wife of the late Albert F. Meckes.
Born in Coplay, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Julia (Steiner) Flamish.
She was a seamstress for Bridals by Faye, Whitehall, for five years before retiring in 1976. Prior to that, she was a seamstress for Bretz's Cleaners, Northampton, for 22 years.
A Christmas in August basket social will take place Saturday, Aug, 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Catasauqua American Legion Post 215, 330 Second St.
It will benefit Wreaths Across America for Cedar Hill Memorial Park on Airport Road, Allentown.
This event is intended to raise money to help pay for wreaths to be laid on all the approximately 2,600 veteran graves at Cedar Hill Memorial Park on Dec. 15. The organization of Wreaths Across America has placed 325,000 wreaths worldwide.

Catasauqua police responded to these and other calls recently.
· Officers assisted EMS in the 700 block of Front Street.
· Police responded to a theft in the 800 block of Race Street.
· A report of suspicious activity brought officers to the 700 block of Second Street.
· Officers were called to the 200 block of Bridge Street to investigate a report of suspicious activity.
· A parking complaint brought police to the 500 block of American Street.
· Police responded to a report of harassment in the 700 block of Front Street.
Car windshield damaged
A resident of Whitehall reported to borough police on Aug. 9 the windshield of her 2001 Buick Century was damaged.
She told police Andre Ehly-Young, no address given, had her cell phone and when she asked that he return the cell phone to her, he threw it against the car's windshield, causing it to crack, police said.
Ehly-Young was cited with criminal mischief, police said.
Damage to the windshield was estimated at $264.
GPS unit stolen
Richard G. Engler, 90, of Whitehall, formerly of Catasauqua, died Aug. 2, 2012, at Cedarbrook, Allentown. He was the husband of Elizabeth D. (Sullivan) Engler of Whitehall for 69 years.
Born in Catasauqua, he was a son of the late Winfield and Ellen (Thomas) Engler.
He was an administrative assistant to the chief metallurgist at Bethlehem Steel Corporation for 42 years before retiring.
He was a former secretary of the Catasauqua Club and served on the Catasauqua Library Board.
William T. Ettl, 78, Catasauqua, died Aug. 9, 2012, in Fellowship Manor, Whitehall. He was the husband of Loretta Mae (Siegfried) Ettl.
Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Francis V. and Frances Ida (Miller) Ettl.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He worked at Western Electric for many years before retiring.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Whitehall where he played dart baseball for many years.
He was a member of the Fullerton American Legion and the Telephone Pioneers.
Local church celebrates peaches
Robert "Whiskey" L. Reimer, 73, of Wescosville and formerly of Northampton, died Aug. 4, 2012, in his home after a battle with lung cancer. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Fritts) Reimer for 47 years.
Born in Cherryville, he was a son of the late Lester A. and Esther M. (Shover) Reimer.
He was a 1957 graduate of Northampton High School.
He was in the U.S. Army.
He worked for Mack Trucks for 34 years.
He was a former member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Northampton.

Olga Chaply, 88, of Northampton, died Aug. 7, 2012, at Cedarbrook Nursing and Rehab Center, South Whitehall Township. She was the wife of the late Wasyl Chaply.
Born in Lvov, Ukraine, she was a daughter of the late Stefan and Katerina Kuzyk.
She was a sewing machine operator for various garment mills in the Lehigh Valley until retiring in 1973.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Northampton, where she sang in the choir for many years.
