Respectfully Yours: Enjoy movie

Friday, August 17, 2018 by JACQUELYN YOUST in Focus

Dear Jacquelyn,

My wife and I were at the movies last weekend, and the couple behind us made loud noises unwrapping their candies and talking during the movie. Their voices were not loud whispers, but normal conversation voices and their crinkling of wrappers was irritating. We looked back at them several times but they did not stop. We got up and moved. Should we have told them to be quiet instead of moving?

Dear Reader,

Respectfully Yours: Casual dining

Dear Jacquelyn,

I’ve noticed that many men are wildly, and often sloppily under-dressed when out on a date or to dinner with their dress-to-impress date, fiancée or wife. And what is it with men wearing their shirt tails out? Is it to hide their beer guts? A shirttail out resembles a dress on some men. Few realize how ridiculous they look. Furthermore, what happened to dressing up to go out to dinner?

Dear Reader,

Respectfully Yours: Names

Friday, July 20, 2018 by JACQUELYN YOUST in Focus

Dear Jacquelyn,

I am horrible at remembering people’s names. It’s embarrassing and I feel inconsiderate. What do I do when I’m struggling to remember a name? Do I try to play it off, or confess?

Dear Reader,

We’ve all experienced that moment of panic when you meet someone you know and your mind goes blank. It happens to everyone sooner or later. However, you can recover gracefully. I have a few simple strategies that will help you save face the next time this happens.

Respectfully Yours: Salon gossip

Thursday, June 28, 2018 by JACQUELYN YOUST in Focus

Dear Jacquelyn,

I have been going to a new hair salon for a little over a year now. I am happy with my hairstyle, but I feel uncomfortable every time I go because of all the gossip that goes on. Going to the salon is one of the few luxuries I do for myself and I would like this time to be a little more relaxing. It also makes me wonder what is said about me after I leave. Is there anything I can do, or should I find another salon?

Dear Reader,

Respectfully yours: wedding attire

Saturday, June 23, 2018 by JACQUELYN YOUST in Focus

Dear Jacquelyn, I am going to a wedding and I would like to wear a black cocktail dress. My friends are telling me I should avoid wearing black to a wedding. The wedding is semi-formal and I feel a black dress is an appropriate choice. What’s your opinion about wearing black as a wedding guest?

Dear Reader,

Decoding the rules of wedding attire confuses most people.

Respectfully Yours: cell-phone talk

Saturday, June 16, 2018 by JACQUELYN YOUST in Focus

Dear Jacquelyn, While I was sitting in a automotive service department waiting room, a woman sat down next to me. She was on her cell phone, having a long, loud, animated conversation. Me and everyone else in the room could hear every single word of her conversation. Is it not common practice to leave the room when you get a call in a confined space? Do people not realize that they are being intrusive?

Dear Reader,

Respectfully Yours: funeral

Friday, June 8, 2018 by JACQUELYN YOUST in Focus

Dear Jacquelyn, Driving home today and I saw a funeral procession approaching. There was a police motorcycle at the front, flashing lights, and a long procession of cars with headlights on. Sadly, I saw drivers cut into the procession and honk their horns. Could you please address the protocol involved when encountering a funeral procession?

Dear Reader, It’s disappointing that this happens and even more disappointing that this needs to be addressed. Have people gotten so busy and impatient that there is a disregard for people mourning the loss of a loved one?
