Developer seeks approval for 40-unit project on Cross Country property

Northampton Borough Planning Commission will meet Nov. 13 to hear plans for a proposed 40-unit town house project on a long-vacant tract of land just north of 21st Street.

Abe Atiyeh, a major developer in the region, has filed documents with the borough seeking a hearing before the planning commission to discuss the town house development on the site of the former Cross Country Clothes.

The planning commission would be responsible for making a recommendation to borough council on whether or not to move the proposed development forward.

Atiyeh has had other business in the borough. He earlier purchased the former Catholic War Veterans Post 454 site on Washington Avenue and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4714 building on Main Street.

The property in question has been before the planning commission and borough council previously. Posh Construction, a Bethlehem Township developer, had plans for a town house development, which were approved. The development never came to fruition.
