Our crochet group is now called Stitch and Chat and will meet 6 p.m. Aug. 13. Attendees can bring their crocheting, knitting, cross-stitching or embroidery projects to the library and enjoy the company of crafty friends.

We are currently soliciting items for our basket social, to be held 6 p.m. Oct. 11. The library will accept new or collectible items starting Aug. 19.

The ticket presale begins Sept. 3.

Reading doesn’t end with summer. To promote early literacy, the library has an ongoing program that promotes reading to young children before they reach kindergarten. This program is based on evidence that the more children ages 1 to 5 hear books read to them, the more prepared they will be to learn to read upon reaching kindergarten.

To participate, sign up at the library and receive a folder with a sheet to mark off books. At each 100-book milestone, bring the sheet back and your child receives a prize. Once 1,000 books are read, you and your child get to attend a special ceremony, held twice a year.
