Domchek to states

Northampton senior Dalton Domchek will make his first trip to states after becoming the silver medalist in the 800 meter run at the District XI Class 3A Track and Field Championships last week at Whitehall High School.

“It’s been a really good season, and I’m really happy,” Domchek said. “I’m just looking forward to the experience. Our school record right now is 1:57, so if anything, I’m going to go out there and give it my all to break that record.”

Domchek’s district time was 1:58.67.

“Just like last week, there were a lot of good kids in the race. We started all together in a big group. I was kind of leading it off and then I got passed by a few kids, so I was kind of sitting there,” said Domchek. “As we went around, the kid from Tamaqua just took off, and I gave it a chase because I really wanted to make it to Shipp.”

Domchek made it as he fell at the finish line.

“I heard people behind me, so I tried to go and my legs got kind of tight at the end and I fell,” he said. “I was just going as fast as I could and my legs seized up, but I’m really happy I made it as a senior.”

Teammate Georgia Wiswesser placed sixth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:54.81. Brooke Rockovits also had a sixth place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 36-04.25.

Victoria Keenan placed seventh in the long jump with a distance of 16-07.00.

The PIAA State Track and Field Championships are scheduled for next weekend, May 24 and 25 at Shippensburg University.
