Northampton council seeks grant for borough pool upgrades
A grant application seeking funding for upgrades to the Northampton Borough Municipal Pool has been submitted to the state for consideration.
At the Oct. 4 council meeting, borough Manager LeRoy Brobst reported the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Development application for upgrades to the Laubach Avenue pool was filed Sept. 27, three days ahead of schedule.
“This application is seeking a grant of $445,000 to be distributed from the Monroe County casino funds,” Brobst said.
The proposed project would include constructing a pavilion in the confines of the pool complex. The work would not interfere with the 2019 summer season at the pool.
In the past, the borough has been successful in obtaining Monroe County casino gaming grants. Such funds were utilized for Uptown Park on Main Street.
The municipal pool opened in the 1950s.
The recreation center is sponsoring a Nov. 26 bus trip to New York City.
“This will be a free day in the city, and a round-trip ticket is $40,” Councilman Anthony Pristash said.
