Boys win two meet races; girls take one
On Tuesday Sept. 11, the Northampton cross country teams had a meet at the Allentown Parkway scoring against Central Catholic, Emmaus and Whitehall.
The boys went 2-1 on the day with wins on Central and Whitehall. The girls went 1-2 on the day with a win against Whitehall.
The boys top-seven were: Evan Gillette (7th), Vince Gallagher (15th), Isaiah Tyler (25th), Zeke Coyler (26th), Owen Nahf (27th), Wyatt Poniktera (47th) and John Breslin (49th). There were 159 total boys racing.
“I thought the boys ran well,” head coach Dan Benner said. “I wouldn’t say it was our best day, but at this stage of the season, it doesn’t have to be. I am happy with the work the team is putting in, and I believe we will be at our best for the end of the season.”
The girls top-seven included: Amber Poniktera (5th), Georgia Wiswesser (7th), Magen Perelli (8th), Lauren Pague (49th), Brianna Tyler (52nd), Noelle Eisenreich (72nd), and Marissa Mele (82nd).
There were a total of 123 runners in the girls race.
“One of the two losses the girls had was by a point, which is always tough,” Benner said. “But, just like the boys, I feel the girls are working hard at practice and the payoff will be there at the end of the season.”
Next week on Tuesday, Sept. 18, the Kids face Allen, Dieruff, and Parkland at Parkland High School.
“It should be a good test on a tough course in the first half of the season,” Benner said. “Hopefully we can use the good competition to make ourselves better next week.”
