Boggs, Secara part of Cup team
Northampton High school softball players Hannah Boggs and Nicole Secara will compete in the Carpenter Cup Softball Classic, beginning June 25 at FDR Park in Philadelphia, after being named to the Lehigh Valley team last weekend by head coach Blake Morgan.
“I was really excited. It caught me off guard because I thought there was going to be another day for tryouts,” said Secara. “I just wanted a good opportunity, and I knew it took a lot of talent to get there, and I wanted to see if I could make it.”
Secara and Boggs are both juniors who tried out for the first time this year.
“I think it’s a good opportunity to represent the Lehigh Valley, and I really wanted to compete with the people I competed against during the season,” said Boggs.
Northampton teammate Heather Alich played on Lehigh Valley’s Carpenter Cup team last year and told Boggs there are a lot of college coaches who come to watch.
“I don’t think it will make me nervous because I play in a lot of showcases with college coaches there,” Boggs said.
Boggs and Secara are both outfielders, and Boggs also plays first base. In addition, both girls would like to play softball in college.
“I’m hoping to win, and I really want to become friends with the other girls,” said Boggs.
The Lehigh Valley team will have had its first practice this past Wednesday.
“I really want to win the whole thing,” Secara said. “I’ve played with all the girls, and I’ve played against them, and I know all of us can hit.”
