Kids wrap-up Spring sports season in full gear

Northampton’s boys’ volleyball team went 2-1 last week with victories over Liberty and Pocono Mountain West. The K-Kids dropped a five-set thriller to Parkland, 30-32, 25-15, 25-18, 21-25, 15-11. The volleyball team will travel to Bethlehem Catholic on Thursday, April 12 then host Dieruff on Tuesday, April 17.

The boys’ lacrosse team picked up its first victory of the season over Bethlehem Catholic on Tuesday, April 10. Juniors Matthew Urban and Garret Transue each had two goals in the win over the Golden Hawks. The boys’ lacrosse team will host Central Catholic on Thursday, April 12 and Daniel Boone on Saturday, April 14.

The girls’ lacrosse team dropped three games to Parkland, Central Catholic and Freedom. Domenica Lerch scored four goals, Cam Devitt had two goals and two assists, and Ashley Coughlin made 37 saves in the three contests. The girls’ lacrosse team will travel to Liberty on Thursday, April 12 then host Saucon Valley on Friday, April 13.

The baseball team went 1-3 last week with a 10-0 victory over Dieruff and losses to Emmaus, Central Catholic and Parkland. Brittain Shander went 2-for-2 with two walks in the loss to Emmaus and Seth Laky went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the loss to Parkland. The K-Kids will host William Allen on Thursday, April 12 then travel to Pleasant Valley on Saturday, April 14.

The softball team also went 1-3 last week with a 15-1 victory over Dieruff and three one-run losses to Emmaus, Central Catholic and Parkland. Eight players recorded a hit against the Huskies. Madison Fraley went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI. Heather Alich had two hits and three RBI in the loss to the Trojans. Northampton will host William Allen on Thursday, April 12 then travel to Pleasant Valley on Saturday, April 14.

The boys’ track and field team swept a dual meet against Whitehall and Pleasant Valley on Monday, April 9. Senior Jared Jackson dominated the sprints with a victory in the 200-meter (24.3 seconds), a win in the 400-meter (51.8) and a third-place finish in the 100-meter (11.6).

Sam Arnold (43.2) and Nicholas Bodnar (43.3) finished first-and-second in the 300-meter hurdles. The team of Arnold, Bodnar, Brandon Kitz and Nicolas Quinones won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:47.0.

Senior Doug Sacco won the high jump (5-9) and the triple jump (39-4). Senior Zachary Liggitt swept the shot put (43-10.5) and the discus throw (139-4.).

The girls’ team split their dual meet with a win over Pleasant Valley and a narrow loss to Whitehall. Freshman Kyleigh Straub put together an impressive performance in the 3,200-meters winning the event by more than 11 seconds (12:42.9).

The team of Beth Albright, Amber Poniktera, Georgia Wiswesser and Hannah Flaven won the 4x800 with a time of 10:23.6. Senior Alexis Barrall cleared 10-0 to win the pole vault. Junior Abby Wheeler won the triple jump (31-8). Junior Madison Nika won the discus (88-7).
