William “Bill” L. Ahner Jr., 80, of Walnutport, died Jan. 7, 2018, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Jean E. (Schleicher) Ahner for 55 years.

Born in Ashfield, he was a son of the late William L. Sr. and Mary C. (Schappell) Ahner.

He was a 1955 graduate of Lehighton High School.

He was in the U.S. National Guard, Lehighton barracks, where he earned a rank of E-4, from 1958-1961.

He was a millwright in the beam yard of the former Bethlehem Steel for 31 years until he retired in 1995.

He was a member of the Kempton Antique Tractor and Toy Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Dr. Holly Ahner and her husband Thomas Poore of Tucson, Ariz., Chrysse Everhart and her husband Marc Eden of Swannanoa, N.C., and Karol and her husband Gene Keeney of Slatington; a grandson, Matthew Stevens and his companion Janna Seip of Slatington; Elaine Ahner of Slatington; a brother, James and his wife Donna of Statesville, N.C.; nieces; and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister; and two brothers.

There will be a graveside service 11 a.m. Jan. 12 at Dinkey Memorial Cemetery, Ashfield.

In lieu of contributions, prayers are greatly appreciated.
