Students of the Month are honored

Northampton Exchange Club recognized several Northampton Area High School seniors at a dinner held Dec. 6 at Northampton Banquet & Event Center.

These November and December Students of the Month were selected based on their strong academic record, involvement with both in-school and out-of-school activities, leadership and service to the community.

Laura E. Rex, of Walnutport, and Lane A. Markulics, of Bath, were November’s recipients.

Elizabeth Fehnel, of Bath, and Carson Keefe, of Danielsville, were recognized for December.

Rex serves as president of the high school Spanish Club and is part of PEACE and the Library Aide Club. She is a representative on Student Council and is a current member of the Pennsylvania Science Olympiad, National Honor Society and the orchestra. She has volunteered throughout her high school years with the Special Olympics.

Markulics is president of the Drama Club and Gay/Straight Alliance and serves as an officer on Student Council. He is also a member of the chorus and National Honor Society. He serves as a student representative on the Keystone Community Advisory Panel and works part time at My Place Pizza.

Fehnel is vice president of Future Business Leaders of America, an officer with the PE Club and a representative on Student Council. She is a current member of the track and field team, SADD, DECA, the German Club, Biology Club, PEACE, chorus and Volunteer Club. She volunteers with her church’s youth group and Bible school. She works part time as a cashier.

Keefe is president of DECA and is a current member of the boys volleyball team, National Honor Society, Outdoor Club, PE Club and Power of the Cinema Club. He serves as a state officer for DECA and has volunteered for Northampton Exchange Club. He is employed part time with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
