NHS girls take fourth
It was not until long after it was announced that Easton won the East Penn Conference Cheerleading Championships last Wednesday night, that Northampton found out they had clinched fourth place out of 14 squads the following afternoon.
“Our athletic director [Shaun Murray] tweeted it out,” said Northampton cheerleading coach Lauren Sniscak.
The K Kids placed fourth with a score of 181. Parkland placed third with 187 points, and Pleasant Valley was runner-up with 195.5. Easton scored 208 points.
Northampton cheerleading captains Ashley Moore, Rylee O’Donnell, and Makenzie Fritz credited Sniscak for “knowing her stuff” and making the K Kids competitive.
“We’re fairly new at this,” Moore said. “We work a lot harder this year. Everything hit the way I wanted it to.”
Fritz broke down the K Kids’ routine.
“We start with our cheer, and after that, tumbling and jumps, and then we go into our stunts where we do our single stunts. Then we go into a little dance which is sometimes the most fun part of the routine, and after is the pyramid where I feel we all have to work the hardest together,” Fritz said.
O’Donnell believes the K Kids’ attitudes are different this year.
“Seeing our family and friends [in the stands], they’re so supportive. Seeing our coach’s face...I’m really happy,” said O’Donnell. “I think it was one of our better routines.”
Whitehall placed fifth, Becahi sixth, Nazareth seventh, Pocono Mountain West eighth, and Stroudsburg was ninth.
Emmaus placed 10th, East Stroudsburg South was 11th, Freedom 12th, Allentown Central Catholic 13th, and East Stroudsburg North was 14th.
