Heather Alich named to Cup team
Northampton High School junior Heather Alich has been named to the 2017 Lehigh Valley Carpenter Cup softball team, coached by Blake Morgan.
The Carpenter Cup is a Philadelphia Phillies sponsored tournament, which will be played the week of June 19 at FDR Field in Philadelphia, featuring teams comprised of high school sophomores and juniors from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.
“I was interested in it last year, but I wasn’t able to make the try out,” Alich said. “It’s always been in the back of my mind, and my friends said it was a blast. I learned a lot more than I expected to learn at try outs. We have very good coaches in our league.”
Assisting Coach Morgan are Ed Stinner, Ricky Sechler, Kyle Stinner, and Jim Haney.
“I’m excited to see what it’s about, playing different teams from different states,” said Alich, who is a catcher.
Coach Morgan is hoping to communicate three things to the Lehigh Valley players: team, community, and character.
“I think it’s important to give back,” said Morgan. “These girls play softball all along the east coast, all over the country, and that’s great, but they started here. It’s nice to travel to Philadelphia and represent here.”
Also on the Lehigh Valley roster are Kelly Dulaney and Chelsea Morgan of Parkland, Sky Esterly, Daphney Adams, Paige Hahn, and Krista Colussi of Nazareth, Jess Indelicato and Alexa Pannucio of Bethlehem Catholic, Alexis Ruth, Hannah Palinkas, and Maddy Clark of Emmaus, Rachel Arner of Whitehall, Dani Barnes of Southern Lehigh, and Courtney Grundhauser of Easton.
Lehigh Valley’s first game is scheduled for June 19 at 11 a.m. against Jersey Shore.
