Northampton junior, Aja Blount, won the gold medal in discus at the East Penn Conference Track and Field Championships last week at Whitehall High School.

“I was ecstatic, especially because I PR’ed,” Blount said. “I looked up there, and it just flew up.”

Blount’s distance was 119-10.00.

“On my first three throws, I was really nervous and kind of psyched a little,” said Blount.

Northampton assistant coach, John Blick, and three of Blount’s teammates were there for her, offering encouragement and building her confidence.

“The other girls were throwing really far, and I haven’t been doing well in practice, but they were saying you can do it,” said Blount. “By the third throw, I believed them. Most definitely, I really appreciated it.”

Teammate, Colton Maxwell, was a silver medalist in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.53. He also won a fifth place medal for the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.44.

Alexis Barrall won a fourth place medal in the pole vault with a height of 8-06.
