Marth ties for first in javelin

Tuesday's opening day of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Track and Field Championships brought Northampton senior Hannah Marth some of the toughest competition she has seen all year in the javelin event.

And while she was tested by the field, mainly Liberty's Jochobed Arthur early on, Marth found her way back to the top of the podium once again.

Marth and Arthur tied for first in the javelin with a mark of 123-9, topping third-place finisher Quintessa Zamolyi of Bethlehem Catholic by over 10 feet.

"I was throwing consistently, which is good for me," "I was able to keep my nerves down, despite the fact that she beat me in her first throw."

After watching Arthur hit 123-9 on her first attempt, Marth's event-tying toss came on her fifth throw.

The Press will have more on the EPC track and field championships in next week's edition of the Press. Day two was scheduled to take place on Wednesday at Whitehall after Press deadlines. The District 11 meet will take place May 13 and 14.
