Stoneback back: Rob Stoneback returns to the "Jazz Upstairs" series, 7:30 p.m. April 17, Rodale Community Room, Miller Symphony Hall, 23 N. Sixth St., Allentown. This time, it's the Rob Stoneback Septet, abover, performing straight-ahead jazz, from Dixieland to Swing to Bop. In concert, Stoneback and his band has backed Natalie Cole, Johnny Mathis, The Manhattan Transfer, Aretha Franklin, Olivia Newton-John, Englebert Humperdinck, Joel Grey, Bobby Rydell, Al Martino, Sonny and Cher, Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, and Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. The Rob Stoneback Big Band has four recordings: "Up Front" (1983), "Traditions" (1990), "Caught In the Web" (1997), "Mad To The Bone" (2003) and "Simone on Simone" (2007), the first recording for Simone, daughter of Nina Simone. Stoneback and his ensembles have performed in the Mid-Atlantic region, including Lincoln Center, New York; World Cafe, Philadelphia, and the Berks Jazz Festival.
