Dog park becoming reality

Thursday, October 23, 2014 by AL RECKER Special to The Press in Local News

The long awaited dog park in Allen Township took a major step forward when the Allen Township Board of Supervisors awarded a $30,250 contract to Anchor Fencing of Allentown at the supervisors Oct 9 meeting.

The fence will be installed at the proposed dog park off Savage Road.

Anchor Fencing is the only company that submitted a bid.

Located near the Nor-Bath Trail, the dog park could be in place by 2015. It would be the first such dog park in the area.

Township supervisors approved options for the fencing Anchor submitted. The project includes green plastic over the fence, steel material and a galvanized bottom rail. There is a possibility the fence could be installed before winter sets in.

Also during the meeting, township Manager Ilene Eckhart requested mailing a letter to residents in housing developments advising them to not shovel or snow blow snow into the street. Residents are being advised to move snow in places where fire hydrants are located.

The township volunteer fire company reported 19 alarms during the month of September. There was no monetary fire damage last month.
