LCCC debuts novel at GACC
"LCCC presents: The Guardian and the Graduates," a graphic novel about Lehigh Carbon Community College, debuts at The Great Allentown Comic Con (GACC),10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Nov. 16, Merchants Square Mall 1901 S. 12th St., Allentown.
The first 500 who stop at LCCC's booth at GACC receive a copy of the graphic novel signed by the artist, Craig "Old School" Blake.
The full-length comic book is part of the "value" campaign LCCC and Mosaic Interactive, a marketing agency, launched in September 2012, emphasizing the value of an LCCC education.
This year's extension of the campaign has to do with students personifying values obtained by attending LCCC. The message is that values are so strong, it's like having super powers.
"The focus of the value campaign has been to change the perception of a community college education," said Matt McKernan, president of Mosaic Interactive.
"Through this piece, we are not only communicating the value of a community college education, but we are providing an opportunity for the community to engage with literature, art and other humanities in a whole new way. Young readers will gravitate toward this medium and instantly form a positive connection with LCCC," according to McKernan.
GACC, said to be the Lehigh Valley's largest comic and pop culture convention, includes contests, trading cards, and appearances by comic book artists, including Walter Jones (the original black "Power Ranger"), Taimak (Bruce Leeroy from "The Last Dragon"), and Ralph "Rags" Morales and Mark Mckenna, comic book artists for DC Comics and Marvel Comics.
