Art Museum's SOTA launches 'Luncheon with the Authors'
The Allentown Art Museum Society of the Arts (SOTA) presents its inaugural "Luncheon with the Authors" Oct. 4 at Lehigh Country Club, Allentown.
Nationally-acclaimed authors Nell Freudenberger, Bob Spitz and J. Courtney Sullivan will discuss their books, offer insights about the creative process of their writing and respond to audience questions.
Freudenberger, author of "The Newlyweds," has been named one of The New Yorker's "20 Under 40."
"The Newlyweds" tells the tale of a young Bangladeshi woman who moves to the United States to marry an older man she met on an online dating site.
American journalist and non-fiction writer Bob Spitz will discuss "Dearie, The Remarkable Life of Julia Child," which The Wall Street Journal calls "by far the most substantial new book on Child."
Spitz is the award-winning author of "The Beatles."
"The Engagements" by J. Courtney Sullivan is a novel about marriage and four very different couples from different decades. The common thread is an engagement ring and the famous promise, "A diamond is forever."
Sullivan's previous novels "Commencement" and "Maine" are New York Times best-sellers.
SOTA plans for "Luncheon with the Authors" to be an annual event.
The event begins at 11 a.m. with book sales, opportunity for authors' signings and a cash bar. Luncheon will begin at noon, with the program following. The event is expected to conclude at 3 p.m.
Luncheon tickets are available. Book groups may request to be seated together.
Proceeds benefit the museum's educational programs and the SOTA Print Fund.
SOTA is a non-profit women's service organization. Its purpose is to work with and further the policies and programs of the Allentown Art Museum and contribute to the educational, cultural and social life of the Lehigh Valley.
