Northampton pool to open June 1
The Borough of Northampton will open its municipal pool for the season Saturday, June 1.
At a recent borough council meeting, Councilman Anthony Lopsonzski Jr. said the municipal pool will close for the season Aug. 17.
This is somewhat earlier than many municipal pools in the region. Officials noted that many of its summer staff, particularly lifeguards, are college students who return to campus the following week.
The public works department is finishing painting the restrooms at the pool, including the floors.
The borough has contracted with Hochmiller Concrete to make some repairs to the pool before borough personnel recaulk all the joints and paint it for the season.
In a related issue, council was told vandalism remains an issue at the borough parks and playgrounds.
"All of the park restrooms have been opened. Unfortunately, one day after opening the 26th Street Playground restroom, someone smashed a urinal in the men's restroom," Borough Manager Gene Zarayko informed borough lawmakers.
With college students home for the summer and adults on vacation, the borough recreation center will again make available summer passes.
Recreation center Director Bob Weinhofer said the fee for the passes is $60 for borough residents and $90 for nonresidents.
Beginning May 10 and ending Aug. 31, Weinhofer said, the summer passes will be available.
