Pursell wins 2 in loss to LHS

The Northampton swim teams both lost to Liberty in a meet from last Thursday.

The girls fell 104-63 while the boys dropped a 111-58 contest.

Despite the loss, several swimmers had some big days for the Kids.

On the boys side, three won individual events. Cory Ninos was first in the 200 IM in 2:16.84, Joey Szerencsits was first in the 500 free in 5:33.63, and Kyle Iasiello was first in the 50 free in 24.81.

Ninos also collected a second place in the 100 backstroke, finishing behind Liberty's Seth Vanatta's time of 59.72.

Nick Pavlacka also picked up a second, coming in after Liberty's Alex Medellin touched first in the 200 free. Medellin had a winning time of 2:02.88. Steton Weaver was second in the 100 butterfly behind Liberty winner Evan Smith's time of 1:01.00.

Pavlacka added a third-place finish to his day in the 100 back behind Vanatta and Ninos. Ben Longacre came in third in the 200 free.

For the girls, freshman Rachael Pursell continued to pile up wins. She took first in the 200 IM in 2:31.34 and was also tops in the 500 free in 5:34.25.

Madison Bernal won the 100 butterfly in 1:04.62 and Emma Steirer was first in the 100 back with a time of 1:09.35. Both swimmers are juniors.

Bernal added a second place in the 200 IM coming in behind teammate Pursell.

Junior Paige Knouse collected a second and a third in the meet. She was second in the 100 fly behind Pursell and was third in the 50 free behind Liberty's Jocelyn Baker's time of 27.03. Junior Hannah Peters took third in the 100 breaststroke behind Liberty's Jess Bassett.
