SteelJam returns to ArtsQuest
Performances by The Victor Wooten Band, Jimmy Herring Band and Conspirator highlight two nights of nonstop jamming as SteelJam returns Nov. 9 and 10 to Musikfest Cafe, ArtsQuest Center, SteelStacks, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem.
Headlining SteelJam Nov. 9 is Conspirator, the project formed in 2004 by the Disco Biscuits' Aron Magner and Marc Brownstein, along with New York producer DJ Omen. With the addition of virtuoso guitarist Chris Michetti and drummers Darren Shearer (New Deal) and Mike Greenfield (Lotus), the group has taken its music to another level, delighting audiences throughout the United States.
Other artists set to take the stage at SteelJam Nov. 9 include electronic duo BoomBox, which blends blues, rock and psychedelia; The Stepkids, who serve up a mix of punk, jazz, West African, 1960's folk and funk; and Revolution, I love You, the Philadelphia-based duo of Rob Lindgren and Jason Reynolds, who perform a fusion of indie rock and electronic dance beats.
On Nov. 10 at SteelJam, there's The Victor Wooten Band and The Jimmy Herring Band.
Wooten, a five-time Grammy Award winner, hit the worldwide scene in 1990 as a founding member of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Continuing to blaze a musical trail with the band, he has also become widely-known for his own Grammy-nominated solo recordings and tours. In 2011, Rolling Stone magazine chose Wooten as one of the Top 10 bassists of all time.
Herring is perhaps best-known as lead guitarist for Widespread Panic and founding member of Col. Bruce Hampton and The Aquarium Rescue Unit. He has also performed in Jazz is Dead, Frogwings, Grateful Dead member projects Phil & Friends and The Other Ones, and founded Project Z, an experimental instrumental trio with friends Jeff Sipe and Ricky Keller. Herring's most recent recording is "Subject To Change Without Notice," released Aug. 21.
Also performing Nov. 10 are Railroad Earth and From Good Homes singer-guitarist Todd Sheaffer and XVSK (Exter Versus Kimock), the jazz-jam fusion duo featuring cellist Trevor Exter and percussionist John Kimock.
