Theater classic: Father Gerard J. Schubert, above left, stepped out of retirement to direct "Arsenic and Old Lace," Sept. 26 - Oct. 7, DeSales University, Main Stage, 2755 Station Avenue, Center Valley. The classic comedy kicks off Act 1's season. Schubert, who founded the DeSales' theater department in 1969, previously directed "Arsenic and Old Lace" for Act 1 in 1981 and 1996. "This is one of my favorite comedies, and I couldn't resist the invitation to come out of retirement and direct it," Schubert says. Schubert last directed "You Can't Take It With You" as the opening production of Act 1's 40th anniversary season. Tickets: desales.edu, 610-282-3192

"A One and A ...": The three Lennon Sisters, who charmed American television audiences for 13 years on "The Lawrence Welk Show," perform 2 p.m. Sept. 30, State Theatre, 453 Northampton St., Easton. The trio of Mimi, Janet and Kathy Lennon, above, was originally a quartet of Diane, Peggy, Janet and Kathy. The group debuted in 1955 with Welk and sang on the weekly variety show until 1968. Their first hit was "Tonight, You Belong to Me," which reached No. 15 in 1956. Their "Sad Movies (Make Me Cry)" was a No. 1 hit in 1961.
